When To Replace Your CCO Wear Resistant Steel
While Chrome Carbide Overlay plate lasts far longer than AR500 for extreme abrasion applications, they do require replacement over time.
Since it wears slowly, at times your crew may overlook these important wear components, as they look the same season after season.

As long as you can see the individual weld beads, your equipment is protected from wear.
The photo below shows substantial dust from crushing rock. When compared to heat-treated steel like AR400 or AR450, CCO plate will often appear shiny due to the large percentage of Chrome in the carbide overlay.
Notice how the weld beads are worn smooth on the lower center of this discharge chute. When you no longer see the individual weld beads, plan to replace them soon. When these wear areas appear light gray, that is the base plate you are seeing. This means your wear resistance has completely worn away in that area.
To protect your equipment from structural damage, you need to replace the wear components promptly. You can see this at the top of the photo below.
