The Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics opened on February 6TH, 2026, and the final ceremonies wrap up February 22ND, 2026.

The finest winter sport athletes in the world compete head to head bringing nationalist pride to the medal winners. For most people, simply qualifying for the Olympics is the achievement of a lifetime. And many of those athletes, often rely on their few days of fame, for the rest of their lives.

If Only There Was An Olympics For Wear Resistant Steel, It Would Be Easy To Know What To Install

In the real world of heavy industry, the difference between first place and third can literally be $100,000 to your bottom line. In today’s world economy, that can be the difference between profitability and closing the doors forever.

Wear Steel Origin

Here Is The Background For Chrome Carbide Overlay (CCO) Plate:

• Origin: Hardfaced chromium carbide wear resistant steel, started in the mid-1960s. The plates are created by welding a chromium carbide deposit onto a steel base plate, creating an abrasive resistant hard surface.

• Acceptance: Their greater performance in combating severe abrasion, helped these plates become generally available in the 1990s.

• Performance: The Chrome Carbide Overlay typically produces 55−62 HRC (Rockwell Hardness) or 600−700 BHN (Brinell Hardness).

The ASTM G65 Test Determines Which Abrasion Resistant Steel Is The Most Effective

To Compare Any Material, Every Variable Is Identical, So The Only Change Is The Test Material.

This standardized test measures the material weight loss in grams, from the test samples.

Test Sample

Every test sample is prepared to the same thickness, length and width.

The rubber test wheel is a specific size and durometer hardness. For this example, the test wheel was 8.875” in diameter. They use specific test sand; with consistent granule hardness, grain shape and size.

The rubber wheel rotates an exact number of revolutions. The read-out shows the number of lineal feet. The weight in pounds shown in the above photo is the pressure of the steel test sample against the wheel.

Test Sand

The test sand drops into the spot where the rubber wheel contacts the test material, shown above with the red arrow. The sand is squeezed between the steel and the wheel, causing specific abrasion results.

The Metal Samples Are Weighed Before And After The Test. The Weight Loss Is Measured In Grams.

Abrasion Resistance

The Abrasion Life Increase scale is an accurate representation of wear life for these JADCO products. On the products shown with two names, the first name is a plate and the second name is hardfacing welding alloy wire.

The CW names such as CW600 are the CHROMEWELD ™ family of Chrome Carbide Overlay plates. The Fusion product line are the welding alloys.
