USING A WEAR EVALUATION PROCESS
JADCO • Rich F.2022-06-29T15:27:55-04:00JADCO client/customers recognize we do things differently than other wear-resistant steel vendors. One major difference is we partner with our customers, and implement our Wear Evaluation Process.
“If you can’t describe what you are doing as a process, you don’t know what you’re doing.”
The Wear Evaluation Process is one of your most important advantages when partnering with JADCO. We have the ability to translate the prior wear plate successes we have developed in other industries and apply these winning, established processes to benefit all of our customers. After specializing in solving our customer’s wear-resistant steel challenges for nearly 42 years now, we can implement those proven successes to tackle your greatest wear headaches.
Few People Understand, There Also Exists A Process For Failure

People are often doomed to repeat a failure process over and over again; without knowing how to break the cycle. They likely don’t even know they are trapped in a never-ending cycle of wear plate failure.
Think of your current, single most demanding wear application. Together, we will organize it as a process of smaller tasks. Together, we will identify each step of the process to determine if it is a material or labor issue. If it’s a material issue, we’ve got you covered.
Your breakthrough could be as simple as an equipment adjustment, delivering a huge operating performance difference.
CASE STUDY: PAPER MILL
Within the first 3 months after their shutdown, one large papermill wore away 3/8” thickness of the bottom 40’ of their newly installed log deck. Yet the top 140’ of the through-hardened wear plate had absolutely no measurable wear.
Checking the mill quality certifications, all of the new wear plates were the same hardness. So why the dramatic wear at the bottom loading area and no wear at the top?
After spending an entire day carefully watching their operation in action, we determined the tail pulley had not been adjusted for clearance of the new wear plates. Each prior outage had continually laid the new wear plate on top of the previous deck plate.

Above, you can clearly see four layers of wear plate, one on top of the other. This forced the cast chain into direct contact with the newest plate. Adding over 3” of height to the deck over time, forced the chain to try and ‘file’ its way through the new wear plate.
Results:
By adjusting the tail pulley up so the chain glided onto the deck instead of making the chain file through the steel, the wear stopped.
Before the through-hardened log deck wear plate had to be replaced, it delivered 2.5 times longer life than it ever received over 30 years using AR400.
By partnering with us and identifying a simple mechanical adjustment, it allowed them to eliminate their greatest wear application challenge.
How Can We Help Take Away Your Maintenance Migraine?
First, have a JADCO representative partner with you and examine your current wear difficulty. Enjoy the success of our industry experience where we have accomplished similar results for other companies.

Any chain is only as strong as the weakest link. (This is an extreme example, but you get the point. ) Perhaps your team has overlooked the same issue for so long; they don’t realize it is a built-in weakness in your own system.
Conclusion:
For over the last 41+ years, JADCO has focused exclusively on delivering consistent, longer equipment life for our customers.
JADCO’s QT-PLUS® delivers greater performance IN YOUR WEAR APPLICATIONS than the various AR400 steel plates you have used previously.
Being able to create wear-resistant steel having the same hardness through the entire thickness of the steel, demands you accurately control the alloying chemistry with precise heat treating.
Why Doesn’t Every Steel Company Make Their Wear Plate Last As Long As JADCO QT-PLUS ®?
The attention to detail required at the steel mill in Pennsylvania is available to anyone.
Yet most wear plate distributors choose to reduce the proper quantities and percentages of these essential alloying elements just to get a lower price.
Now you understand why we are able to deliver better results to our customers. We think differently by strictly focusing to improve your current results.
