Recycled Glass Wash Box Update
JADCO • Rich F.2024-09-18T10:03:07-04:00This week, the Glass Problems Conference is being held in Toledo, Ohio. If you are going…look for our JADCO display and team at booth # 34. Our team of wear steel professionals will be on hand to assist in resolving your toughest wear challenges.
THE CHALLENGE:
This recycling glass customer struggled with wear on their existing wash boxes. They utilize a closed loop system, using returned quench and process water to clean the glass. At this point the water is carrying many glass particles that rapidly wear most steel wear plates.
Recycling glass is very abrasive on their equipment. Corrosive chemical binders are added for spinning the recycled glass into fiberglass, used for building insulation. Most common wear plates cannot overcome this combination of abrasion and corrosion.
With over a dozen production lines, this issue required continual maintenance and was a major labor challenge.
PRIOR ATTEMPTS:
The customer noted that once the wash boxes started wearing, it was an endless battle to keep adding more patches. The existing boxes were worn so thin they had temporary patches everywhere. The only practical solution was to install new wear resistant steel for the wash boxes.THE SOLUTION:
Duracorr ® 300 is dual-phase stainless steel, providing substantially more corrosion resistant than galvanized, painted or weathering steels.THE RESULTS:
After installing the first two wash boxes several years ago, the customer has now replaced the remaining wash boxes with Duracorr ® 300. If you struggle with corrosion and abrasion in your equipment, now is the time to end your frustration by contacting JADCO.HARDNESS COMPARISON:
Duracorr ® 300 is heat treated to a nominal hardness of 300 BHN to handle the abrasion. Your advantage using Duracorr ® 300 over standard stainless steel in wear applications is the 300 BHN (Brinell) hardness to combat abrasion. For comparison, the hardness of standard 304 stainless is listed as 70 Rockwell B, which translates to 123 BHN; or just 41% as hard as Duracorr ® 300. View this steel hardness conversion chart. Fabricating Duracorr ® 300 can be formed to shape and readibly plasma cut. Welding Duracorr ® 300 to itself along with welding to mild or stainless steel is easily done using the correct welding alloys.Applications include:
Coal and Ore Cars
Salt Truck Spreaders
Fertilizer Storage Bins
Sewage Plants
Hoppers and Bins For Grain, Sugar Beets, Manure, Etc.
JADCO stocks Duracorr ® 300 in the popular ¼”, 3/8” and ½” thicknesses for your corrosion and abrasion requirements.
NOTE: Duracorr ® 300 was developed by and is a registered trademark of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., the manufacturer of Duracorr ® 300.
Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. also manufactures JADCO’s industry leading through hardened wear resistant alloy steel plate QT-PLUS ®.
