Protecting Core Barrels With HARDGUARD™
JADCO • Rich F.2024-09-27T10:55:17-04:00Boring holes into the earth is the most efficient excavation method to create support anchors for wind turbines and other free-standing structures. The core barrels environment naturally deals with constant abrasive wear.
Boring creates high stress grinding and gouging abrasion with every rotation. Early methods of protection were welding square mild steel bars onto the barrel, then hand welding hardfacing for protection. This was labor intensive and the effectiveness was questionable.

By comparison, JADCO HARDGUARD blocks are easy to install, providing immediate wear protection for the sides exposed to wear.

HARDGUARD blocks are high Chrome cast white iron wear blocks. They are cost effective and available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes to protect the vulnerable areas on your equipment.
With 63 HRC minimum hardness, HARDGUARD wear resistant alloys deliver maximum high stress abrasion protection. Compared to most of the hardfacing on the market, which is often less than 60 HRC.
While nearly all hardfacing deposits are under 3/8” thick, most HARDGUARD blocks feature ¾” wear material, or double the thickness of generic CCO.
With a mild steel backing plate bonded onto the high Chrome wear material, this allows you to easily weld them onto your equipment without using specialized welding alloys.
Having the ability to be formed onto the curved core barrels make it the most effective wear protection available for ground engagement equipment.

Compare the previous labor intensive method on the barrels in the background in the photo above, with the current HardGuard blocks on the barrel in front.
After testing several material options from different vendors, this major Midwest contractor selected JADCO’s C502 HARDGUARD block for their long wear life. These 9.5” x 2” x 1” blocks are segmented, allowing the HARDGUARD blocks to be formed to the outside of the core barrels.
