Why QT

WORKING WITH QT PLUS® WEAR STEEL

FABRICATION INFORMATION

FLAME CUTTING

Easily flame cut QT-PLUS® with oxyacetylene or plasma. Hardening will occur at the edge of the cut, therefore it’s beneficial to pre-heat before flame cutting (300°F) or allow enough stock to get below the hardened edge.

The minimum plate temperature prior to thermal cutting should be +60°F.

Note: At JADCO, high-definition plasma is used to burn, and the material is under water to decrease distortion of the heat-affected area. For plates ¾” and thicker, preheat the plate to 300°F to prevent edge cracking. When preheating the plate do not heat directly with a torch, use indirect heat to heat evenly over the entire plate.

MACHINING

QT-PLUS®  may be machined and drilled using conventional methods with proper tooling and speeds.

Please contact your JADCO representative to discuss your specific requirements.

FORMING

Our QT-PLUS® Wear Steel is designed for superior formability when compared to other high abrasion-resistant plates in this class. QT PLUS® is cold-formable. Also, the toughness of QT-PLUS® enables it to be rolled and/or formed for almost any application up to 2” thick. We recommend 8T across the grain and 12T with the grain. For plate over 2” thick, 12T transverse to the grain is recommended.

WELDING

QT-PLUS ® has a low carbon content which allows ease of weldability. When welding QT-PLUS® it is recommended to use JADCO FUSION™ Universal, a high strength, work hardened stainless steel that can be welded to dissimilar metals, designed for harsh working environments. Typical low hydrogen rods/wires such as E7018 or E8018 weld rod, E71T flux core wire and ER70S solid wire can also be used. Pre-heat to 250°F through thickness within 3 inches of welding zone before welding. Slow cool welds with blankets. Welds in restraint should be avoided.

QT-PLUS® has the mechanical properties for the harshest environments.
