Weld Out-of-Position

Welding Out-Of-Position With A Chrome Carbide Hardfacing Wire

Previously, if you needed to do out-of-position welding repairs on your Chrome Carbide Overlay (CCO) hardfaced equipment, you needed to use a tool steel type hardfacing.

This is because Chrome Carbide welding wires simply didn’t run out of position. When you tried welding chrome carbide wires out of position, you found out the weld deposits would run off the equipment like water. Plus if you are welding outdoors with a shielding gas, it often blows away; further compromising your welds.

And if you have to chip off the slag blanket protecting the weld deposit while it cooled, before making your next pass. None of this benefitted your efforts trying to beat the clock.

Most People Do Not Realize Tool Steel Deposits Are Far Less Abrasion Resistant Than Quality Chrome Carbide Hardfacing Deposits.

This is because Chrome Carbide welding wires simply didn’t run out of position.

Heavy industrial applications have had success using Chrome Carbide products to combat abrasion challenges for decades.  Repairing your application, gave you the choice of either using hand applied hardsurface products or a Chrome Carbide Overlay (CCO) plate such as Chromeweld ™ 600.

Many companies have struggled with field repairs where Chrome Carbide wires were limited to welding in flat or horizontal positions.  Attempts to weld vertically or overhead had the molten weld deposit run off the steel like water.

Your Chrome Carbide wire investment cannot protect your equipment when it is lying on the ground. Not to mention the many hours you just wasted.

And Fusion 600 Wire Doesn’t Require Any Shield Gas.

FUSION™ 600

FUSION™ 600 is a high chromium cast iron alloy for hardsurfacing components subject to extreme abrasive wear and moderate impact.

The FUSION™ 600 deposit contains a high quantity of hard primary chromium carbides in a tough austenitic (non-magnetic) matrix.

The weld deposit is similar to JADCO’s CHROMEWELD™ 600 overlay plate. Using special weld settings, FUSION™ 600 can be welded out of position. This product is used for hardfacing components experiencing wear by sand, earth and abrasives.

This chart displays the improvement in Abrasion Resistance between the various hard surface options.  The largest difference in abrasion resistance is the three materials on the left have no Chrome Carbides.  The quantity of Chrome Carbides is higher with Fusion 600 ™.

This photomicrograph of Fusion 600 ™ carbides, shows the scale for 500 microns.  There are 25,400 microns per inch, so 500 microns equals 19/1000ths of an inch.  With this many carbides packed so tightly together, your wear resistance is locked and loaded to protect your equipment.

You Can Also Hardface Vertical Down Using Fusion 600

Many welders prefer to weld vertical down rather than vertical up, and are more productive using this preference.  Fusion 600 ™ provides excellent hardfacing results, regardless of your preferred direction of travel.

 

And You Can Now Hardsurface Overhead

Overhead Weld
Overhead welding with normal Chrome Carbide hard facing wires are usually considered impossible.  Fusion 600 ™ allows you to protect your wear areas without dismantling your equipment, for a substantial time savings.

Combat Abrasive Wear On Pipe Flange Joints With Fusion 600™

Blow lines always struggle with abrasion wear on their pipe end flange joints.  Now you can stop abrasion in this critical area and efficiently control leaks by hardfacing these areas.  With the pipes horizontal, you are able to hard surface weld vertical down Using Fusion 600 ™, to control your wear and extend the life of your pipes.
