Here is a countersunk hole in QT Plus ® for using a plow bolt. Notice the perfectly round hole with the square corners to retain the plow bolt. This style is used when the bolt heads are exposed to severe wear, which would otherwise quickly off wear the head using a standard bolt.
Their previous wear plate vendor’s countersunk bolt hole in a Chrome Carbide Overlay (CCO) wear liner was gouged out by hand. This caused installation problems because the square shoulders of the ‘plow bolt’ did not fit properly into the countersunk hole. Because the hole was too big, the bolt pulled too far through the plate, so they couldn’t tighten down the wear liner correctly. This caused clearance issues in the equipment, premature liner failure and unplanned down time.
