Loader Bucket Wear Liners: The Secret to 5X Longer Life

Every mining and aggregate operation has multiple front end loaders moving material non-stop.

Abused Bucket
Loader buckets are among the most abused equipment in any fleet. Here you can see how this bucket bottom has been pounded over the years until the internal support ribs show.

From the hardest granite to sand or snow, loaders are transferring hundreds of tons of material daily.

Bucket bottom removed

With the destroyed bottom removed, here you can see the structural support ribs. The heel pads are mounted at the back and below the support ribs. The bottom of the external wear plates, called heel pads, carry the entire weight of the bucket and the load. This results in non-stop, high stress grinding and gouging abrasion.


Untrained operators often attempt to also use the bucket as a hammer, attempting to bash larger rock into smaller rocks, resulting in caved in bucket bottoms. This reduces bucket volume and prematurely destroys the bucket structure.

Bucket Bottoms Are Usually Made From ASTM A514 steel, or commodity AR400 steel. Often the OEMs will use the lowest cost steel available.
