JADCO Delivers Straight Talk
JADCO • Rich F.2025-02-06T17:19:07-05:00When JADCO makes light gauge plate, we use true thickness base plate. This means actual 1/8 on 1/8, or 1/8 on ¼, or 1/8 on 3/16. If you say 1/8 on ¼; we use ¼” base plate.
When we get above that thickness, when we’re making ¼ on ¼; we actually use a 5/16” thick plate. And I do that because we want to penetrate down into the base metal about 1/16”. That forms carbide at that line of dilution, but the customer at that point is getting the true measure of ¼” of carbide overlay.
Some of our competitors if they are making ¼ on ¼ (which they would call 24 plate), it would not be a surprise that they would be using a 3/8” base plate. They then add in the least amount of chrome carbide; the expensive stuff, onto the plate.
Sometimes it is hard to even eye-ball it, then sometimes it is self-evident. The thicker the plates, the easier it is to see.
“That customer was getting cheated out of a lot of wear life.”
And they were buying this from a steel service center that was stocking this from a competitor. (When you are an honest company) that’s hard, because you are trying to call it out and differentiate our product. But you also don’t want the customer to feel foolish, when we know he is getting taken.”
As the leading manufacturer of Chrome Carbide Overlay (CCO) plate in the USA, you can depend on the results you get from JADCO. Most steel distributors buy foreign made CCO which has little carbide content, and even less quality control.
