Looking at the 5 o’clock position, you can see light reflecting off the hardfacing weld beads. We can overlay the inside of pipe, in sizes ranging from 5” to 48”.
How is this made?
It is produced with a steel pipe and hardfaced/overlayed on the ID with chromium carbide hardfacing welding wire. CHROMEWELD™ FLOW will yield outstanding results if you follow these helpful instructions.
Fabrication Information
Cutting:
Accomplished by using plasma, air arc, abrasive saw or waterjet.
Machining:
The overlay surface can only be finished by grinding. You may may produce countersunk holes for bolts by wire EDM, plasma arc cutting, or carbon-arc gouging. Pre-machined mild steel inserts may be welded into straight holes for additional machining. CHROMEWELD™ FLOW cannot be machined by ordinary methods.
Cold Bending:
Material is not readily formable.
Welding:
CHROMEWELD™ FLOW overlay pipe can be joined by welding substrate to substrate using 309 weld wire/rod. Fittings include bends, elbows, tees and reducers. All interior weld seams and joints exposed to wear, should be protected by a cap weld of CHROMEWELD™ FUSION.
Mechanical Information
CHROMEWELD™ FLOW typical hardness ranges from 52-56 HRC with a single weld pass thickness. On a double weld pass, the hardness increases to 58-62 HRC.

- CHROMEWELD™ FLOW displays excellent abrasion resistance and will withstand continuous moderate impact.
- CHROMEWELD™ FLOW overlay will remain abrasion resistant at temperatures up to 1100°F.
- Standard wall thicknesses range from 1/8” – 3/8”
