When updating new equipment, often the new installation affects the equipment in the surrounding area. This is particularly true with piping and electrical, which may need to be moved out of the way.
Here is a perfect example of a new installation where they needed to modify the location of existing blow line equipment, which created a bottleneck. To reposition the blow lines and avoid impacting the new equipment, they added additional elbows to the system.
As a result of this ‘jog’ in the blow line, it created frequent blockages in the piping. Production was impacted from the downtime needed to disconnect and clean out the blocked piping.
Maintenance worked hard to keep up, but didn’t recognize the layout created their bottleneck.
They Needed To Look At Their Issue With New Eyes
The new elbow with a longer sweep eliminated the jog. It now runs in a straight shot across the room. By eliminating two elbows and a transition, most of the blockages in the system no longer occur.

While the new elbow eliminated most of their blockages, we provided an access panel just before the transition. This allows them to quickly clear any obstructions without dismantling the elbow, preventing additional downtime.
