Does Your Drag Chain Need A Lift?
JADCO • Rich F.2025-06-09T19:39:45-04:00A vital component in papermill wood yards is the drag chain, using lift attachments designed to transport the logs/trees into the debarking system.
A Midwest paper mill used 2 inch square tubing for their lifting attachments. The impact and weight from repeatedly dropping 3 tons of logs from each grapple load onto chains in the infeed deck. This resulted in the lifters being crushed. This reduced consistent material flow and frequently created jam-ups, since the smashed lifters were ineffective.
Here you can see how deformed the lifters became from dropping 3 tons of logs onto the infeed chain deck. The 2 inch square tubing could not withstand the impact and weight.
The customer needed an effective replacement for the lifters, and selected solid 2” square QT-PLUS ® bars to be welded onto the drag chain attachment points.
This allowed the chain to effortlessly carry the logs up the incline into the debarking drum. Downtime was dramatically reduced, allowing for greater throughput and improved wood chip production.
In the above photo you can see the drag chain with QT-PLUS ® welded onto the chain attachment. This allowed for better contact with the logs, and consistent material movement.
If Your Drag Chain Can Use A Performance Lift, JADCO Has The Answer You Need
JADCO’s QT-PLUS® DELIVERS GREATER PERFORMANCE IN YOUR MOST CHALLENGING PULP AND PAPER WEAR APPLICATIONS.
To better understand the concept, view our list and several photos of the most common pulp and paper industry applications where JADCO has already delivered longer wear life.
Being able to create wear resistant steel having the same hardness through the entire thickness of the steel, demands you accurately control the alloying chemistry with precise heat treating.
