What is the Best Wear Plate for Demolition Equipment?
JADCO • Rich F.2023-08-31T13:07:08-04:00Demolishing older buildings to make way for new development certainly is nothing new. Many of the buildings designed for manufacturing in the early 1900’s, never predicted today’s wide-open warehouse spaces covering several acres.
Fork lifts moving materials non-stop from one location to another, cannot effectively use the old-time, multi-story buildings built in the early 1900’s.

The yellow arrow points to a crack that has developed in the bucket mounts on this demolition bucket.
The mounting bosses are made from heavy, high strength steel. While created for destroying buildings; even these demo buckets have difficulty standing up to the stresses trying to tear the bucket apart.

Here is the after effect when they continue to abuse the demo bucket after the crack had developed. The light gray gouges in this photo are where the mounting bosses were removed using a carbon-arc torch to blow the metal away. You can see how the hydraulic cylinder mounting has broken the steel out of the bucket structure.

Looking from the inside of the bucket, the damage is beyond what can be repaired by welding. Now what do they do?
Rather than stick with the same ½” thick steel that failed here, the customer selected to install a 1” thick QT-PLUS ®. This through hardened steel replaced the entire top of the bucket where the hydraulics are located.

With all of the mounting equipment and damaged areas on the top of this bucket, getting an accurate profile was impossible. Using JADCO’s pattern tool on the side of the bucket, we were able to get an accurate profile the new 1” thick QT-PLUS ® needed to match. The operators refer to this rebuilt unit as their “Super-Duty-Bucket”.

Which pieces of your equipment do you want to rebuild to better than factory performance?
JADCO’s QT PLUS ® delivers greater performance IN YOUR MOST CHALLENGING WEAR APPLICATIONS than the various AR400 steel plates you have used previously.
Being able to create wear resistant steel having the same hardness through the entire thickness of the steel, demands you accurately control the alloying chemistry with precise heat treating.
Doesn’t Every Steel Company Make Their Wear Plate Last As Long As JADCO QT PLUS ®?
The quick answer is No;
Although the attention to detail required at the steel mill in Pennsylvania is available to anyone. Yet most wear plate distributors choose to reduce the proper quantities and percentages of these essential alloying elements, to get a lower selling price. When you have to cut back on these critical alloys, wear life always suffers.
