Abrasion Resistance Explained
JADCO • Rich F.2025-05-16T15:30:44-04:00The two main causes of wear we combat daily are Abrasion and Impact.
The ASTM test to measure the abrasive resistance of any metal is the G-65 Test.
To Compare Any Materials, Every Variable Must Be Identical.
This standardized test measures the material weight loss from a specific metal sample, measured in grams.
The rubber test wheel is a specific durometer hardness. For this example, the test wheel was 8.875” in diameter. They use special test sand so the granule hardness, grain shape and size are consistent.
The test sand drops above the location where the rubber wheel contacts the test material, shown above with the red arrow. The sand is squeezed between the steel and the wheel.
The Metal Samples Are Weighed Before And After The Test. The Weight Loss Is Measured In Grams.
JADCO CHROMEWELD 600 ™ is the industry standard for long lasting flights. Here you can see the wear life difference compared to mild steel and AR500, commonly used to make screw flights. How long do your flights last?

How Do JADCO Products Compare For Abrasion Resistance?
The Abrasion Life Increase scale is an accurate representation of wear life for these JADCO products. On the products shown with two names, the first name is a plate and the second name is hardfacing welding alloy wire.
The CW names such as CW600 are the Chromeweld ™ family of Chrome Carbide Overlay plates. The Fusion product line are the welding alloys.
Does Your CCO (Chrome Carbide Overlay plate) Vendor Only Have One Type Of Plate?
As the leading manufacturer of Chrome Carbide Overlay (CCO) plate in North America, you can depend on the results you get from JADCO. Most steel distributors buy foreign CCO which has little carbide content, and even less quality control.
Our entire Chromeweld family of CCO products are made at our headquarters in Harmony, PA, 30 minutes North of Pittsburgh.
To make certain we deliver the longest lasting materials to our customers, JADCO has created our own clad machines. This gives us total control over every aspect of making our industry leading CHROMEWELD overlay plate.
If your current vendor is not bringing you new products or different approaches to resolve your wear plate headaches; you have likely out grown their ability to improve your wear results.
Never consider the CHROMEWELD ™ family of products as a “One Size Fits All” wear plate.
We offer these CCO products for your worst wear headaches:
